BärLap

Project with Casa Nobile Bätterkinden

This project reimagines the classic chocolate Easter bunny with a playful twist. Instead of simply redesigning a rabbit, I created a bear disguised as a bunny — a humorous character that plays with identity and childhood imagination.

The bear wears a headband with oversized rabbit ears, fake bunny teeth held by an elastic strap, and almond-shaped eyes that resemble a rabbit’s gaze. It’s a hybrid figure — endearing, odd, and familiar all at once — inviting curiosity and a smile.

From digital design to real chocolate

To bring the project to life, I collaborated with Casa Nobile, an artisanal Swiss chocolate atelier. This hands-on partnership allowed me to dive into the full chocolate-making process — from tempering and casting to demolding and finishing. I gained valuable insight into the behavior and limitations of chocolate as a material.

Using CAD software, I modeled the character in 3D and created a negative mold suitable for casting. I was able to successfully produce four physical prototypes using dark, milk, white, and caramel chocolate, each around 20 cm tall.

This project combined digital fabrication, character design, and culinary craft. It deepened my understanding of material-based design and showed me how storytelling, humor, and technical precision can come together in an edible, multisensory object.
